Why is goal setting important? By setting yourself a goal you are committing yourself to achieving it.

Successful people will encourage your goals, unsuccessful people will not understand your goals. – Brad Sugars

The most common denominator in all the self-help literature and books is the importance of goal setting. We’re told to set long-term goals, short-term goals, lifetime goals and personal goals.

When we make and keep commitments, such as setting and achieving goals, it reflects the amount of trust we have in ourselves. We increase our confidence in ourselves to make and keep commitments to others and ourselves. By telling someone else about your goal, you are giving yourself accountability to get it done.

Stephen R. Covey says it best in his book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. “To begin with the end in mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination. It means to know where you’re going so that you better understand where you are now and so that the steps you take are always in the right direction.”

Answer these three questions when creating your goal.

What?

Why?

How?
